Interactive Map of Zetes

As a follow-up to the post made earlier this week, here is the entire "Zete map" that you can pan, zoom, and manipulate to your hearts' content. If you see an error or would like to contact a special someone, contact Frank Harrington! If you'd like to download the Google Earth file so you can see more detail, because a lot of placemarks overlap one another, you can do so here. After that, open Google Earth and hit File -> Open, then select that file. The placemarks should automatically populate Google Earth. If this is too complicated, here's the map (note that you can always view the map on the "About Us" tab at the top of the page as well):

Pi Zetes of the Tri-State Area

We were able to import our database of brothers into Google Earth, which allows us to visually identify where brothers are located.  For example, below is an overview of all of our brothers in the Tri-State Area.  Hopefully, we wil be able to bring brothers together by publishing screenshots of different locations periodically.  If you see a placemark out of place, please contact Frank Harrington immediately so the database can be fixed. You can also contact Frank to retrieve a brother's contact information if you see someone you'd like to catch up with. Note that the number in the placemark represents their year of graduation ("7" meaning 1970s, "1" meaning 2010s, and so on).

Meet the Elders

What’s your name?Michael Bruce

What’s your current town? I live in Milford, MA.

What is your current occupation? Currently, I'm an environmental engineer for ARCADIS-US.

When did you graduate from RPI? I graduated in 2008 and again in 2010.

When did you pledge Zeta Psi? Why did you choose to join? Who is your big brother? I was in the Fall 2004 pledge class and Tim Nichols '05 was my pledge master. I visited the house with my roommate, JP Devlin during recruitment in 2004 because he knew a lot of the basketball guys from his recruiting trip. We both received bids from Zetes and TKE, and thankfully made the right decision. I became friends with many of my fellow pledges, and eventually most of the brothers, and I'm very thankful for the opportunity to join Zeta Psi. My big brother is Russell Herman '06.

What is your favorite memory from your undergraduate years? There are way too many to list here, and my buddies and I joke about them all the time. A good topic for another post someday.

An underrated experience occurred when my little brother Dave and his girlfriend (now fiancee) stole a bunch of mozzarella sticks from the deep fryer when Zep and I were making them in 2005 or 2006. We got the whole house up in arms about this event and tried to enter Dave's room to retrieve the food, but he had barricaded himself quite well. Dave lived at the end of the far wing across from Mike Visker, who was studying for the MCAT or something and was not amused to say the least. Finally, Zep and I climbed in through Dave's window, let everyone into his room, then Dave and Devin got into a big fight. I remember Dave's face turning purple after being put in a headlock, then the dispute ended. Good times all around.

What house positions did you hold as an active? Phi, Sigma, Delta, House Manager, Pledge Master, and some others. Cooking for the house as a graduate student elder in 2009 and 2010 was a great experience. I wish I had cooked all along (i.e. from 2005 to 2010). The cooks have their own special little "fraternity" inside of the house.

What is your favorite part about returning to the chapter house? Seeing the younger actives, especially the guys I never lived with.

What brothers do you still keep in contact with? Mainly Devin, JP, Ray, Miles, Q, Kwaks, Praggot, Zep, Paul, and Russ. Of course, many others as well.

What are some of your hobbies? Working out, shooting, and I guess XBox.

Coke or Pepsi? Coke.

Finally, what’s your favorite beer? Downtown Brown

January Financial Reports Now Posted

As always, directors can access them here. Due to the lack of information from RPI, we do not know the composition of RPI's payment to us (made on 1/25/11). Therefore, our accounts receivable are artificially high, as is our net income, because I was forced to book the payment under "placeholder income" in order to ensure our books matched our bank accounts.

Once we receive the missing data from RPI around March 1, I will restate January's and February's financial reports.

Thank you for your time.

The Class of 2010 Revisited

Last year, we mentioned the brothers that graduated in May 2010.  You can find the post here.  So, what are they doing now?

  • Michael Bruce is working at ARCADIS-US in Wakefield, MA as an environmental engineer.  He lives in Milford, MA, but is soon relocating inside 128.
  • Jeremy Colon is working for Wellesley Information Services in Dedham, MA.  He's an email production / database coordinator and builds HTML emails, updates websites (we could use his help with this one!) and cuts lists of data.  He lives in Revere, MA and enjoys watching Ray Allen on a nightly basis.
  • Steve Thomas is studying chemistry and working towards his Ph.D at Columbia University in New York, NY.
  • Joe Brust is working as a graphic designer for PointRoll in Conshohocken, PA, which is an online advertising company.  He lives in Norristown, PA.
  • Tim Plante was not available for comment, but sources say he's doing well.
  • Eric Anderson is working at TwoFour Systems in White Plains, NY.  He's a financial analyst, so he helps create and maintain the company's financial software packages.
  • Tim Rupp is working for Sprint Nextel in midtown Manhattan.  He's an account executive who deals with business accounts, and has begun to appreciate the fast-paced environment that he joined after graduating.  Tim currently resides in Staten Island.  He also scored this basket, which we should never forget.
  • Ed Reis is attending graduate school at RPI in Troy, NY, and is the "Dean" of the actives.  He lives in the house and enjoys shoveling the front steps.
  • Jeremy Crouse is working for the Department of Defense at the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ.  If he told us more, he'd have to kill us.  He does enjoy his job, however, and lives in Sparta, NJ.

Most of them have committed to returning to the house for Alumni Weekend in April.  We look forward to seeing them then!

Pi Zetes Have Successful Weekend in Troy

The Board of Directors met in Troy this weekend for their winter meeting, as has been our custom since 2009.  The weekend was filled with good company, much progress towards "winning the future," and even Rick Case '70 getting elbow-deep in an overflowing mop closet! On Friday, a few Zetes attended the RPI Men's Basketball game against Union College in Schenectady, where they saw the Engineers defeated the hated Dutchmen 65-58.  Zetes on the team include Jamie Zajac '13, Mike Hammond '11, Andrew Darst '11, Dan Martin '13, and Nate Haskell '14.  Many snaps for them.

Saturday morning found a "tired" Joe Beck '11 and recently-arrived Jim Ljunglin '57 unexpectedly running into each other at Manory's, which has reportedly jacked their prices up in wake of the RPI Men's Hockey team's recent success.  The Board of Directors then convened at the Student Union at 2:00 PM for a long, yet very productive meeting.  Directors in attendance included Ivor Preiss '55, Jim Ljunglin '57, Rick Case '70, Rick Kasold '70, Tony Bourassa '71, John Spohn '81, and Michael Bruce '08.  Meeting minutes will be posted soon.  After that, Jim, John, and Mike enjoyed a dinner together at Verdile's, while Tony and Rick Case attended RPI Hockey's defeat of #1 Yale at the Houston Field House.

Jim, John, Mike, and Rick Case met with the actives at 11:00 AM on Sunday morning to discuss the future of the chapter.  It was touch-and-go for a while, but eventually there were smiles all around, and the chapter sang Kumbaya together at the meeting's conclusion at 11:45.  The elders then departed, ending a very enjoyable Trojan weekend.

We look forward to working with the actives throughout the course of the semester, and seeing everyone back together at Alumni Weekend in April!

November Financial Reports Now Posted

Brothers, A slew of financial reports can now be found online, including November financials, Q2 financials, and the first half of the fiscal year financials.

Note that "Pi Chapter Actives" reports refer to the amount of money owed by the elders to the actives at specific points in time. In addition, please note that some names in the accounts receivable have been redacted due to privacy - these are donations made by elders, which are typically held in confidence.
